Porcelain painting- Manos al “plato”

Comenzamos la semana con otro de mis descubrimientos en el mundo del crafting. Me gusta probar técnicas nuevas y usar todo tipo de materiales (siempre “inventando algo” como diría mi madre), y la porcelana era una de mis tareas pendientes.

En Navidad me regalaron un maletín de pintura especial para porcelana de la casa Pebeo. Como siga así voy a necesitar una habitación entera para almacenar tanto invento :P. Hoy en día con los materiales adecuados, una cocina doméstica y un poco de imaginación se pueden hacer cosas increíbles. YouTube tiene infinidad de tutoriales y existen muchos foros en internet donde consultar cualquier duda.

Let´s start the week with a post about porcelain painting. Porcelain painting was a pending task in my list so I went for it! I like to try new techniques and use any type of materials (As my mum would say: you can´t stop doing new things!).

One of my Christmas presents was a workbox of porcelain painting of Pebeo. If I keep going like this I will need a whole room to store all this stuff :P. Nowadays with the right materials and supplies, a domestic kitchen and a pinch of imagination you can create wonderful things. In addition, YouTube has a long list of tutorials and there are forum’s available where you can ask if you have any doubts.

Para mí pintar en porcelana fue todo un reto…al principio tuve una sensación rara, pues estaba acostumbrada a la porosidad del papel de acuarela y un plato de porcelana…es un plato, vamos, ¡que no es lo mismo pintar en papel que en un plato! Al fin y al cabo, la pintura y el arte en sí no tiene límites, así que no hay que tener miedo a probar otras técnicas. Nunca irá mal, créeme, y muchas veces es bueno hacer este tipo de inventos, y sorprenderse a un@ mism@.

Empecé haciendo el boceto en lápiz, y luego me puse manos a la obra (o al plato, como prefiráis). Me costó un poco al principio saber cuanto cargar el pincel, las pasadas, como se mezclaban los colores etc. pero lo bueno de estos “inventos” es que puedes probar tantas cosas como quieras y así ir aprendiendo poco a poco de los errores (como la vida misma).

For me, painting in porcelain was a challenge…at the beginning, I must confess, I had a weird feeling as I was used to the porosity of watercolour painting paper and not to the porosity of a plate. It is not the same to paint on watercolour painting paper than painting on a plate! The good thing is that there is no limit in painting and art, so you never have to be afraid of trying new techniques. It will never go wrong, believe me, and sometimes it is good to challenge yourself, you might be surprised!

I started with a draft, and then it was time to get my hands dirty. It took me a while to know how often load the brush, the number of paint strokes, how to mix the colours etc. but the good thing of the crafting world is that you can try as many things you want and so learn step by step from your mistakes (that how life works too).

Dos de mis musas favoritas en este gremio son Azarraluqui y Los platos de Pan. Puedo pasar horas mirando sus fotos de instagram. Me encanta la limpieza de sus trabajos, la elegancia que desprenden y el toque personal de cada una. Le dan vida a los escarabajos, cactus, mariposas, libélulas, peces, plumas  y a un sinfín de especies botánicas que me trasladan a mi etapa universitaria cuando cursaba mi carrera forestal. Tiene muy buena pinta vuestro trabajo (nunca mejor dicho), así da gusto poner la mesa.

Two of my inspirations muses in this profession are Azarraluqui and Los platos de Pan. I can spend hours and hours looking at their Instagram pictures. I love the neatness of their paintings, fineness and delicacy and also the personal touch that each one them gives to their works. Beatles, cactus, butterflies, dragonflies, fish, feathers and a long list of botanic species that take me back to my university years when I was doing my degree in Forestry. Your work looks amazing and with art like this it is such a pleasure to set the table.
