The Steamhouse es un local especializado en bagels horneados de manera tradicional al más puro estilo neoyorquino. Situado en el centro de Royal Leamington Spa, en Reino Unido, hace las delicias de los viandantes, al poder escoger entre una gran variedad de bagels frescos hechos a diario artesanalmente y cafés cuidadosamente seleccionados.

Siempre he sido una gran fan de estos pequeños locales, con alma propia que no se dejan amedrentar por las grandes cadenas y tras los que hay mucho esfuerzo y dedicación por las cosas bien hechas, en este caso, los bagels, con receta tradicional, desiguales, con semillas de sésamo… de los que de ahora en adelante me confieso una bagel-adicta.

El olor a café, conversaciones amenas, la lista de música cuidadosamente seleccionada sonando, la amabilidad de los dependientes…sin duda, este espacio invita a venir (solo o acompañado) y a dejarse deleitar por todo lo que puede ofrecer aún siendo tan pequeño. El local siempre está lleno, con gente entrando y saliendo y custodiado por unos simpáticos soldados que están estratégicamente colocados por todos los rincones (como el que hay sujetando la puerta). Tienen un contador en la caja que cambia cada vez que consiguen un seguidor más en las redes sociales, ¡en vivo y en directo! No lo pierdas de vista en su Instagram o en su Facebook.

The Steamhouse is a new specialist bagel and coffee shop offering the best of New York deli style food. It is located in the centre of Royal Leamington Spa and it has a lot to offer to the local people and visitors that decide to stop by and have a bite when having a break from shopping at the busy Parade. Bagels are freshly hand rolled, boiled and baked on a daily basis.

I have always been a fan of these types of charming little places, with their own soul, ran by locals that do not feel threatened by the big chains. You can tell the amazing work that has been done just relying on the fact that they use traditional techniques, every bagel is different, sesame seeds, wholemeal, poppy seeds… and they always give to the customer high quality food and efficiency (you don´t have to wait too long to get your bagel & coffee and the staff is super friendly!). I am from now onwards and thanks to these guys a bagel-addicted.

Coffee aroma, the smell of baked bagels, people talking, a playlist which has always been nicely and carefully selected…The Steamhouse invites you (on your own or with company) to come and enjoy such a great atmosphere. The place is always so busy! There seemed to be people coming in and out of it constantly and is watched over strategically by some friendly soldiers from different locations (such as the one that holds the door). Keep an eye and stay tuned on Instagram and Facebook as they have a little counting machine that switches automatically its numbers every time that they have a new follower.

Cuenta la leyenda la historia de dos gigantes enfrentados. Uno de los gigantes vivía en Irlanda del Norte, el otro, en Escocia. De tanto lanzarse piedras el uno al otro acabaron construyendo un camino de piedras sobre el mar. Un día, el gigante Irlandés vió que el gigante Escocés se aproximaba. Al ver su gran tamaño, el gigante Irlandés se asustó y le suplicó a su mujer que le escondiera. La mujer disfrazó a su marido de bebé y lo cubrió con una manta metiéndolo en la cuna. El Escocés llamó con unos fuertes golpes a la puerta, reclamando la presencia del Irlandés para pelearse y así comprobar quien era más fuerte. La mujer respondió: “Mi marido no está ahora aquí. Solo estamos mi bebé y yo”, y le mostró la cuna donde estaba metido su marido disfrazado. El Escocés, al ver el bebé, pensó que su padre sería el triple de grande, así que huyó pisando muy fuerte las rocas, para que se hundieran en el mar y que el otro gigante no pudiera llegar a Escocia. El Irlandés cuando vió que su enemigo huía, cogió un trozo de tierra y se lo lanzó, errando en su objetivo y dando paso a formar lo que hoy de conoce como la Isla de Man.

Legend has it of two giants. One of the giants lived in Northern Ireland, the other in Scotland. From throwing stones at each other they ended up building a path of stones on the sea. One day, the Irish giant saw in the distance the Scottish giant approaching. He was so frightened of his size that he ran home begging his wife to hide him. The wife dressed him up as a baby and covered him with a blanket in the crib. The Scottish giant called with loud knocks on the door, demanding the presence of the Irish giant to determine who was tougher by fighting. The woman replied, “My husband is not here at the moment, its only myself and my baby” and showed him the crib where his husband was dressed as a baby. The Scot, seeing that the size of the baby, thought that the father would be three times as big, so he ran back stamping very hard on the rock path hoping they would sink into the sea and that the other giant couldn´t reach Scotland. The Irishman, when he saw that his enemy fleeing, took a piece of land and threw it, missing his objective and giving way to forming what is now known as the Isle of Man.La Calzada del gigante es un sitio mágico, no solo por la leyenda que lo acompaña y que lo hace más entrañable si cabe. Con más de 40.000 columnas de basalto y declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad, es una visita obligada para aquellos viajeros que quieren descubrir uno de los mayores tesoros que aguarda Irlanda del Norte.

The Giant’s Causeway is a magical place. It has over 40,000 columns of basalt and has been declared World Heritage. It is a must for travelers who want to discover one of the greatest treasures that Northern Ireland has.De vuelta a Belfast hicimos una parada en el emblemático camino de Dark Hedges, otro tesoro para los sentidos en el nos sumergimos en un túnel natural de arboles centenarios. James Stuart construyó una mansión en 1775 y la llamó Gracehill House en honor a su esposa, Grace Lynd. La familia plantó una hilera con más de 150 hayas a lo largo de la entrada principal como una característica atractiva del paisaje para impresionar a los visitantes.

On our way back to Belfast we stopped at the iconic Dark Hedges Road, another treasure to visit in which to immerse yourself in a natural tunnel of centuries-old beech trees. James Stuart built Gracehill House in 1775 and named it in honor of his wife, Grace Lynd. The family planted a row with more than 150 beech trees along the main entrance as an attractive feature of the landscape to impress visitors.
Belfast es una ciudad vibrante, con murales molones a la vuelta de cada esquina y con una gran variedad de locales con música local en directo donde saborear la Hop House 13 de Guinness. Os enseño algunos de los rincones que más me gustaron, entre ellos The Crown Liquor Saloon y The Black Box. Te invito a perderte conmigo por sus calles y a desconectar unos minutos de todo. Belfast is a vibrant city, where you can spot murals in every corner and with a variety of locals with live music where you can savor the Guinness Hop House 13. Two of my favs were The Crown Liquor Saloon and The Black Box. Let me take you to this city and show it with my own eyes. Happy weekend.

Lo ha vuelto a hacer, y no ha defraudado. La modelo y presentadora Alexa Chung presentó hace unos días su segunda colección basada en el archivo de la institución británica Marks & Spencer. Cada prenda ha sido bautizada con los nombres de las calles más emblemáticas de Leeds, ciudad británica donde se fundaron los almacenes en 1884. Alexa ha escogido sus estilismos favoritos del pasado para re-diseñarlos junto al equipo de M&S. Ella misma nos dió alguna pista sobre alguna de las piezas de la colección en la pasada London Fashion Week luciendo el Briggate Trench.

She has done it again, and she has exceeded the expectations one more time. The model and TV presenter Alexa Chung featured her second collection based on the archive of the British institution Marks & Spencer a few days ago. Each garment has been named after the most iconic streets in Leeds, a British city where the store was founded in 1884. Alexa picked her favorite styles from past collections to re-design them alongside with the M&S team. She already gave us some clues about some of the pieces in the collection at the last London Fashion Week wearing the Briggate Trench.

Mi prenda favorita de la colección Archive by Alexa y a la que no me he podido resistir es el Templar coat en azul marino. Esta joya me traslada a mis años de niñez, con ese corte tan característico de los abrigos de niña de los años 90, con la doble fila de botones y el icónico cuello de terciopelo que agregan textura y dan carácter a la pieza original. Este abrigo combina sastrería clásica con las tendencias militares de las pasarelas de esta temporada otoño/invierno. El pliegue en la parte posterior añade volumen y movimiento, mientras que las mangas ¾ son perfectas para mostrar otras capas o lucir unos guantes largos.

My favourite of the Archive by Alexa collection and the one I couldn´t resist the temptation is the navy Templar coat. This gem takes me to my childhood days inspired by 90´s children´s coats, with a double row of buttons and the iconic velvet trim which add texture and character to the original garment. This coat combines classic tailoring with military style trends from the catwalks of the Autumm/Winter season. The pleat at the back adds volume and movement and the ¾ sleeves are perfect to show off other layers or long gloves.

Not that kind of girl

Llegó la época de los guantes, bufandas y…¡sombreros! Sin duda mi favorita. Están por todas partes esta temporada. Para las amantes de los sombreros o para las que siempre tenemos frío (todas tenemos una amiga que siempre tiene frío, servidora incluida) esta tendencia es una bendición. En el post de hoy os enseño mis sombreros favoritos. Lo que más me gusta de ellos, es que los puedes combinar de muchas maneras, con outfits muy casuales y sin complicarte mucho: unos vaqueros, chaqueta de piel, vestidos boho-chic…van con todo y son un complemento ideal para los paseos otoñales.

The time has come: gloves, scarves and… hats! No doubt, my favorite. They are everywhere this season. For those hat lovers and for those who are always cold (we all have a friend that is always cold, myself included) this trend is a blessing. In todays post I will show you my top hats. Hello it´s Mislita

Por fin llegó el otoño…¡y la nueva colección de Mislita!. En el post de hoy os enseño de primera mano el universo Mislita, una nueva marca de calzado que viene pisando fuerte y traspasando fronteras llevando la marca España bien alto. Mislitas son un nuevo concepto de accesorio que dan el toque final a nuestros outfits diarios, hay una Mislita para cada mujer y para cada tipo de ocasión. Son algo más que unas bailarinas o unas slippers, representan a una mujer con estilo propio, con paso firme y segura de sí misma. Pink Denim

Domingo de lavadoras, de compra, de poner orden…y de pintar una chaqueta vaquera vintage que me compré en un mercadillo ¿Porque no?. De estos días que te levantas con una idea en la cabeza y oye, hasta que no la ejecutas no paras. Así soy yo, cabezota como yo sola. No tenia plantilla pero como el ansia viva me podía pues a la aventura que me he lanzado. Ha quedado muy chula, muy pink lady, muy “yo”, muy “Grease”, me encanta. Que pena que no pueda ir a trabajar en vaqueros que si no mañana me plantaba en el trabajo rollo ejecutiva con mi pink denim jacket encima. Bueno Hellowers, a disfrutar de lo que queda de domingo, que mañana empieza lo duro y hay que darlo todo, que pintéis muchas chaquetas y que seáis felices.

Laundry Sunday, shopping, tidying up the room…and a good day to customize the last item I bought in a charity shop, why not?. Today was one of those days that you just woke up with an idea and you had to do it. That´s me, a very stubborn girl. I didn´t have a template, but just decided to create a free hand drawing. The final result is cool, very pink lady style, very “me”, very “Grease”, I love it. It´s a shame I can´t go to work tomorrow with jeans, otherwise I would mix it with an executive style and I would wear my pink denim jacket. Alright Hellowers, enjoy the rest of your Sunday, tomorrow is working day and you have to be rested! Be happy.

Into the woods

Esta es una de mis estaciones favoritas. El domingo salimos a dar un paseo, lo necesitaba. Nada mejor que perderse en el bosque, donde sea, para encontrarse. Estos meses estoy a tope con el trabajo y con la eterna tesis, que ya estoy contando los días para entregarla. A veces cuando estoy saturada no hay nada que mejor me siente que un cambio de aires, y no es necesario irse muy lejos, hay lugares mágicos y con mucho encanto que nos hacen desconectar y salir un poco del ajetreo del día a día, de la ciudad, del ruido, del tráfico, del “llego tarde”…respira hondo, disfruta de lo que te rodea, y si lo necesitas piérdete.

This is one of my favourite seasons. We went for a stroll on Sunday, I needed it. Nothing better than to get lost in a forest, it doesn´t matter where, but to find yourself. These past few months I´ve been extremely busy with work and to eternal thesis and I am counting the days to submit it. Sometimes when I´m saturated, nothing is better than a change of scenery, sometimes you don´t need to go very far to find some magical and charming places that allow you to disconnect, forgetting about your daily routine, the noise, traffic, the “I am late”… Take a deep breath, enjoy your surroundings, and if you really need it, get lost.

Sunflower Memories

Como dijo Josef Koudelka: “Una buena foto es la que no puedes olvidar”.

Hace unos años tuve la suerte de conocer a Raul Tejero, un fotógrafo freelance de Barcelona que estaba pasando unos días de vacaciones en mi pueblo. Una tarde de Agosto, con mis amigas de toda la vida y sin planear nada, a las 4 de la tarde (si, habéis leído bien) sin pensarlo nos adentramos en un campo de girasoles. Todo fue muy improvisado, yo llevaba un vestido que le cogí a mi hermana Martina verde militar de Sfera, me encantaba ese vestido, era tela tela y mas tela, en alguna de las fotos parecía que estaba flotando. Nunca me olvidé de estas fotos, de lo que nos reímos, de la espontaneidad del momento, hacía calor, el suelo pinchaba y el girasol estaba pegajoso y pesaba…recuerdo que guardo con cariño como una aventura veraniega de tantas otras en mi pueblo. De esa etapa en la que las preocupaciones brillan por su ausencia. Hace poco contacté con él, y me hizo mucha ilusión saber que ha evolucionado en su carrera y que tiene un estilo propio definido, que colabora con grandes marcas y fotografía lo que pasa en el backstage de muchas pasarelas de renombre, se nota que pone pasión en lo que hace y que ha trabajado duro para llegar a donde está. Gracias Raul, fue un placer perderse en ese campo de girasoles, a seguir conquistando el mundo con tu objetivo haciendo esas fotos inolvidables.

A few years ago I had the pleasure of meeting Raul Tejero, a freelance photographer from Barcelona who was spending a few days in my town on holiday. An August afternoon, having not previously planned anything, me and a few of my childhood friends, decided to get into my white beetle and drive to a sunflower field. All this, to this point was improvised so I was only able to get my sister´s Sfera military green dress, which I loved and in some of the photos it seemed to be floating in the air. I never forgot about those photos, those laughs, the heat, the prickly floor, the sticky and heavy sunflower, the spontaneity of the moment… I remember and cherish this summer adventure like many others from my birth town. That stage of your life that there is nothing to worry about.

Not long ago, I was able to catch up with Raul and I was very happy to know that his career has evolved and he now has his own photographic style, he works with big brands and he knows what is happening at the backstage of the best fashion shows. You can tell how passionate he is about what he is doing and noticing his hard work. Thanks Raul, it was such a pleasure to get lost in the sunflower field, keep conquering the world with your camera making those unforgettable pictures.

To Summer Up

Otro verano más. Unos días rodeada de los tuyos, con sus más y sus menos, pero los tuyos a fin de cuentas. Este año estábamos overbooked, vamos, llenos hasta la bandera (o barco lleno-expresión que utiliza mi madre cuando todos decidimos ocupar la casa familiar los mismos días y dar mucho por saco a la misma vez). Aún así la armonía familiar se impuso, eso y que ya no nos vemos tan a menudo, con lo cuál no nos queda tiempo ni para discutir y las riñas pasan a un segundo plano. Soy una persona muy familiar y dedico gran parte de mis vacaciones a volver a casa, para no perder el norte y recordar el sur, al que pertenezco. Para que os hagáis una idea, mi familia es algo así, pero con presencia Colombiana, Italiana e Inglesa…una reunión de la ONU en casa, muy divertido, sobre todo para mis padres.

“La distancia significa mucho más que estar lejos“, eso nos contaba Cande en su blog hace unos días. Yo por mí parte he de añadir que la distancia escuece, pica a ratos y es algo con lo que nunca se aprende a vivir por mucho que uno quiera acostumbrarse. No hay “Afterbite” para la distancia. Puedes buscar tu hueco en el mundo fuera de casa, pero siempre está ahí, al acecho, a veces incluso se presenta en forma de duda y te preguntas ¿pero que hago aquí?, pero eso solo pasa en los días malos. Los días buenos fuera de tu hábitat natural (para mí mi España del alma, Andalucía de mi vida), son aquellos en los que te superas a ti misma, en los que te ves en situaciones donde sacas la mejor versión de ti y te sorprendes consiguiendo metas que antes veías imposibles, no solo hablo en el terreno laboral, sino a nivel personal. Es muy gratificante, pero el precio a pagar es la indigesta distancia. Por eso, esos momenticos que paso con mi familia “colombiana-italoespañola inglesa” para mí son los más y me ponen en mí sitio. Estoy segura que vosotros conocéis alguna historia cercana de los que nos hemos ido en busca de oportunidades, o la estáis viviendo en vuestra piel, y estáis en busca de “la mejor versión de vosotros mismos“, espero que lo consigáis y que sigáis luchando por ello, vuestra familia venga de donde vengan os va a querer igual o más si cabe.

Another summer. A few days surrounded by family, with its pluses and minuses, but family after all. This year we were overbooked (or “full boat”-expression that my mother loves to use when we all decide to occupy the family house during the same days and break the armony with too much noise). Still family harmony prevailed as we do not see each other so often now, there is no time to discuss and have arguments. I am a family person and I spend much of my vacation going back home. To give you an idea, my family is something like this, but with Colombian, Italian and English nationality … looks like we are holding a meeting of UN at home, very funny, especially for my parents.

“The distance means more than being away,” as Cande told us in her blog a few days ago. I have to add that the distance stings, itches at times and is something that no one never learns to live with. There is not “Afterbite” for distance itching. You can look for your place in the world abroad, but distance is always there, lurking, sometimes even in the form of a question: what am I doing here? But that only happens in bad days. The good days out of your natural habitat (for me my beloved Spain) are those in which you surpass yourself, where you see yourself in situations you were not before and you give the best of you by achieving your goals. It is very rewarding, but the price to pay is the “indigestible” distance. Therefore, those moments I spend with my “Colombian-Italian-Spanish English” family are the best and bring my feet to earth. I’m sure you know someone dealing with distance at the moment, that have been looking for opportunities, or even you are dealing with distance now, and you are looking for “the best version of yourself,” I hope you achieve your goals, keep on fighting, your family wherever they come from will love you the same or even more if possible.
